Nissan Recalls 5 Models Due to Faulty Sensor

Nissan has recalled five of its 2013 models in the U.S. due to a faulty sensor that can permanently turn off the front-seat passenger air bag, the AJC reports.

The recall includes the following models:

  • Altima midsized car –Nissan’s top selling model, with 49,000 sold this year
  • Leaf electric car
  • Pathfinder SUV
  • Sentra compact
  • Infiniti JX35 SUV

According to documents filed with safety regulators, Nissan hasn’t determined the number of vehicles affected by the recall.

Front passenger seats have built-in sensors that determine a passenger’s weight and turn off the air bags if a child is on board. The malfunctioning sensor can permanently turn off the air bags.

Nissan announced that its dealers will inspect the sensors in April and replace them free of charge if necessary.
