The Two Men Killed in Forsyth County Plane Crash Have Been Identified
On September 13, a small experimental aircraft crashed in Forsyth County. The plane went down in a residential area near Lake Lanier around 7:45 p.m., according to Jason Shivers, Division Chief of the Forsyth County Fire Department. The county’s 911 center received several calls from residents who heard and watched the plane crash.
The only two aboard the single-engine plane were the pilot and a passenger, the AJC reports. Both were killed in the crash, but no one on the ground was injured. Forsyth County Coroner Lauren W. McDonald III identified the two men as pilot Hershall Hall, 45, and his passenger, 40-year-old David Jason Schorr, both of Cumming. The men were pronounced dead on the scene.
According to Forsyth sheriff’s Capt. Tim House, the plane took off from Stoney Point Airfield in south Forsyth County.
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) records reveled that the plan, an RV7, was built by Hall in 2009. FAA investigators headed to the scene late Thursday night. The wreckage blocked a busy roadway for several hours, but investigators were able to re-open the road around midnight.
