Texas Truck Driver Killed in Collision
On Wednesday, a truck driver from Dimmitt, TX died after his tractor-trailer collided with another in Castro County. Arturo Ruiz Ruiz was traveling eastbound on County Road 614 when the narrowing road and blowing dust instigated his 2003 Freightliner, the Lubbock-Avalanche Journal reports. He then crashed with a 2004 Peterbuilt, with each vehicle colliding on the driver’s side.
According to troopers, the impact caused Ruiz’s tractor-trailer to skid into a ditch and come to rest partially facing east. Ruiz was ejected from the tractor-trailer and died on the scene. The Peterbilt, driven by Estevan Rene Lujan, came to rest partially in the roadway facing west. Lujan, of Plainview, TX, was taken to Plains Memorial Hospital with incapacitating injuries.
Authorities do not know if Ruiz Ruiz or Lujan were wearing seat belts. Troopers also do not know whether speed or alcohol contributed to the accident.
