Ten Killed in Labor Day Weekend Crashes across Georgia
Labor Day marks the end of summer for most. Yet, while many are enjoying a three-day weekend away, this is not the safest time to be on the road. Early Tuesday, the Georgia State Patrol reported that 10 people died in wrecks across the state during the holiday weekend.
According to the report in the AJC, fatalities occurred in eight different wrecks, with State Patrol posts in Cartersville and Madison each investigating crashes with double fatalities. Posts in Toccoa, Douglas, and Valdosta as wells as police in Cobb, Gwinnett, and Henry counties investigated the other fatalities.
The State Patrol investigated a total of 373 wrecks, which resulted in 230 injuries during the 78-hour period from 6 p.m. on Friday until midnight on Monday. Troopers arrested 240 people for driving under the influence and issued 983 citations for seat belt violations.
