ATLANTA, GA (November 18, 2021) — Trial lawyer Geoff Pope, co-founder of personal injury law firm Pope & Howard, P.C. in Atlanta, Georgia, was recently sworn in as President of the Georgia Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), an invitation-only association comprised of highly-experienced trial attorneys recognized for exhibiting the highest professional standards. ABOTA’s mission is to promote and improve the justice system through strengthening the quality of advocacy and professionalism and preserving the right to trial by jury and the independence of the judiciary.
Pope was invited to join ABOTA in 2013 and, recognizing the importance of the organization’s mission, became very active in its efforts. As President, he wants to continue to foster open relationships and collaboration between judges and the experienced plaintiff and defense attorneys who comprise ABOTA’s membership. This collaboration will hopefully allow judges and advocates to find ways to improve the justice system. In addition, education will be a key part of his platform, including ABOTA’s Civility Matters program directed to law students as well as ABOTA’s Masters in Trial program geared toward practicing attorneys. In addition to helping law students and lawyers become more effective advocates, these programs are designed to elevate the level of integrity, honor and courtesy in the legal profession.
“I am very excited to take on the responsibilities of President of the Georgia Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates,” Pope said. “This group is dedicated to strengthening the Constitutional right to a trial by jury, and it’s something I’ve strongly believed in my entire career. I will continue to promote the group’s mission through public education, communication and events.”
Pope, born and raised in Americus, Georgia, met fellow attorney Marc Howard at the University of Georgia Law School, and the two joined together to form Pope & Howard, P.C. in Atlanta in 2005.
Pope has been a member of the Georgia Bar since 1993 and is a Past President of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, an organization dedicated to defending and protecting a citizen’s right to a trial by jury. He celebrated 15 years as a Georgia Super Lawyer in 2021.
