Charter Bus Accident Involves 47 Gwinnett HS Students

On Sunday afternoon, a charter bus carrying 47 Gwinnett high school students was involved in a collision. The crash took place in a construction zone on northbound I-75. As traffic slowed, an accident occurred ahead of the bus, and a vehicle involved in the accident was pushed into the lane of the oncoming bus. In an effort to avoid the vehicle, the bus driver veered off I-75, which caused the bus to go up an embankment and hit an overpass.bus4_20110410212338_JPG-300x225

The bus was carrying a total of 52 passengers. According to Georgia State Patrol, 20 people were hospitalized, including one person who had to be airlifted. The unharmed students involved in the crash were picked up by another bus.
